Rowing On is a qualifying race for bumps regattas to decide who places in the Rowing On divisions. It takes place either on the Friday (with a contingency for Sunday1) or Saturday before the main regatta for Torpids or Eights, respectively. Very few crews fail to qualify in most cases, particularly Eights with its extra division — normally it’s around 3 per side.

The course is shorter than that of bumps itself, running from Longbridges to the Cox Stone, though OURCs may choose to shorten it in averse conditions. It is the same course as the Tamesis Regatta).

Footnotes

  1. Torpids requires a contingency due to the much higher likelihood of the Friday having to be abandoned due to inclement conditions.
